After Jana Nayagan, Parasakthi face censor issues, Draupathi 2 director Mohan G says ‘you can show anything but with evidence’

Director Mohan G is returning to theatres with the sequel film, Draupathi 2, a historical period drama. The film is set to hit big screens on January 23. Ahead of this, Mohan G, in one of his promotional interviews, spoke about the censor process, given films like Jana Nayagan and Parasakthi were not in tandem with CBFC which approves the film’s certification.

Draupathi 2 director Mohan G has been known for making a certain brand of films, ones that are politically right leaning, and that which glorifies caste system. So certainly, when the filmmaker is back with yet another film, Draupathi 2, it is expected to create some discussions.

It is only recently when Tamil films like Jana Nayagan and Parasakthi, had been having issues with censor board. Talking about the censor process, Mohan G said in an interview with Behindwoods, “What I did is an historical film, so it was easy. You can show anything but with evidence. Be it scriptures or government approved books. Apart from that, we also put a disclaimer about the dialogues in the film.” The director also added that before getting the censor certificate, one should not announce the release date of the film.

Draupathi 2 has been censored U/A and has a runtime of two hours and 39 minutes. Set in the 14th century, Draupathi 2 is about Hoysala Emperor Vallalar III of Tiruvannamalai, and how he protects his subject from the Sultans. However, the director has also revealed that the sequel will have connection to Draupathi which was set in modern-day period.
