Bhansali and Prakash Ranjit Kapadia wrote Devdas. Many adaptations of Chattopadhyay's work have been made for the silver screen, with filmmaker Bimal Roy's 1955 masterpiece featuring Dilip Kumar with KL Saigal's 1936 adaptation being one of the most well-known. The film made its global debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 2002. The film was well praised and won several awards, including five National Awards.

Currently, Aishwarya is preparing for the release of Mani Ratnam's next film, Ponniyin Selvan: I. In the film, she will play Nandini, the Queen of Pazhuvoor. The film will be available in theatres on September 30.
