Ajith’s Mankatha pre-sales makes Rs 2.20 crore, racing past Vijay’s Ghilli re-release advance collection

Ajith’s cult classic Mankatha returns to theatres on January 23, with massive advance bookings reaffirming the film’s enduring fan craze

The re-release of Mankatha, the Ajith-starrer 2011 heist action drama, is now making its way to big screens once more, with the film re-releasing on January 23, Friday. The film, which had a solid run at the box office at the time of its initial release, is expected to have the same this time too. As per reports, the pre-sales of Mankatha re-release have touched Rs 2.20 crore for day one, superseding Ghilli re-release starring Vijay.

Mankatha re-release: How much was the pre-sales collection?

Mankatha, starring Ajith Kumar in the lead role, had released in theatres back in 2011. The film had gone to become one of the superhits of the actor, and marked his 50th outing. Written and directed by Venkat Prabhu, Mankatha features Ajith as Vinayak Mahadev, a grey-shaded cop whose anti-heroism became one of the talked about characters in the actor’s career.

As per a report by Pinkvilla, the advance sales of Mankatha have touched Rs 2.20 crore, making it supersede Vijay’s Ghilli re-release which made Rs 2.15 crore. While Ghilli held the record for the highest pre-sales in Tamil cinema for a re-release, now Ajith’s Mankatha has taken the spot. Interestingly, both Mankatha and Ghilli features Trisha as the female lead.

What did Venkat Prabhu share ahead of Mankatha re-release?

Ahead of Mankatha’s re-release Venkat Prabhu who directed the film, shared a prized photograph of himself, Vijay and Ajith taken during on the sets of Mankatha. “It’s time to re live Mankatha from today!! Please don’t reveal the climax.. and spoil the experience!! This picture is the மறக்க முடியாத moment during #mankatha shoot!!! Which can never ever happen in the near future!! Hope and wish I am wrong!!! LETS ENJOY MANKATHA,” he wrote.

Mankatha stars Arjun Sarja,Trisha Krishnan, Lakshmi Rai, Anjali, Andrea Jeremiah, Ashwin Kakumanu, Vaibhav Reddy, Premji Amaren, Mahat Raghavendra, Jayaprakash, Aravind Akash and Subbu Panchu, with music scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
