Ajith’s Vidaamuyarchi to open with EMS in Bengaluru?

Tamil superstar Ajith’s film is heading to theatres on February 6, with advance bookings expected to open by February 2. Swagath Enterprises is distributing the film in Karnataka.

If the buzz on social media is anything to go by, Tamil superstar Ajith’s much-awaited next, Vidaamuyarchi, will release in Bengaluru with early morning shows. As of now, it is said that the Magizh Thirumeni directorial will hit screens as early as 6 am, the earliest that shows can begin without special permission.

However, fans have been urging the distributor, Swagath Enterprises, to secure permission and kickstart the celebrations with 4 am shows, given that Thunivu began even earlier with 2 am shows. Telugu and Tamil big-ticket releases routinely open with 4 am shows, and at least 1 midnight show for fans in Bengaluru. For Vidaamuyarchi, though, 6 am, is what is being circulated in Gandhinagar circles. Advance bookings of Vidaamuyarchi are expected to open over the weekend, latest by February 2.

The film, meanwhile, reportedly faced delays in release after it was alleged that it is an unofficial remake of the Hollywood film Breakdown and that the production house, Paramount Pictures was claiming damages in copyright infringement. However, the team dispelled the rumours surrounding the remake claims, as well as legal issues with the Hollywood production company. They added that the similarities in the visuals of Vidaamuyarchi’s trailer and Breakdown are coincidental.

The Anirudh musical, Vidaamuyarchi also stars Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Sarja, Regina Cassandra, Aarav, among others. The film revolves around Ajith’s rescue mission for his wife, played by Trisha, after she is captured by a notorious gang in Azerbaijan.

Vidaamuyarchi, incidentally, was not Magizh Thirumeni’s choice as title, and while he was initially not on board with it and thought it was too bland for the film’s explosive content, over time he warmed up to it and now thinks it is just apt. The film has been censored and certified U/A with a runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes. The post-theatrical streaming rights of Vidaamuyarchi have been bagged by Netflix.
