Speaking to Variety India, Suresh Triveni shared that he always wanted to make a high-voltage action drama. Not a mindless one, but one with a soul right in the centre, and that is where he thinks Subedaar originated from. Suresh said that the one-liner had excited him and that he liked that the subject explored anger as an emotion. He mentioned that Anil Kapoor had agreed to do the film without even hearing the full script and had simply said that he was doing it. He also said that, as a result, he tried everything and at one point felt that they were becoming too boring in their own narrative.
"I wanted to challenge myself. “Subedaar” was not meant to be a flamboyant film. To be honest, It only became so when Anil said yes to it. People say that the third film is the easiest film to do. I should say it’s been the toughest and the most monumental film for me so far. But I wouldn’t trade this for anything else," Triveni said.

Suresh Triveni said that Anil Kapoor had been on his mind while writing the script and that their first interaction was a phone call after Tumhari Sulu. He remembered being surprised when Anil called her during a trip to London and later invited her to a film preview.
They first met over a Zoom ad shoot, where he appreciated Anil’s energy. He added that he felt lucky that actors like Vidya Balan, Shefali Shah, and Bhumi Pednekar approached their roles as performers, not stars.
Speaking about others, Suresh shared that casting had been a joy and that he usually relied on gut feelings. He was certain about Aditya Rawal for the role of Prince, having admired his swagger in Bumfaad, though Aditya was initially reluctant before going all out.
He further mentioned that he knew Mona Singh socially, admired her voice, and she immediately agreed to the role. Faisal Malik, a close friend, usually played comedic roles, but here portrayed an understated character.
"For Radhikka Madhan, we've been talking to, since my first film, and this one kind of worked out. Saurabh Shukla, I begged and pleaded and got him in this film, because I just love him. And he was gracious enough to agree to all my resources. He and Anil sir had great chemistry. This cast was a dream cast for me, and the great response to the trailer shows everyone has liked it," he said.
