Antony Varghese, Abhishek KS’ campus romance drama Laila, set in Maharajas College, begins shoot

The movie, scripted by Anuraj OB, has newcomers Sona, Nandana Rajan and Shivakami as its heroines

Ajagajantharam and Jallikattu actor Antony Varghese’s new film Laila went on floors on Monday in Chottanikkara. The campus romance drama, which has Antony playing the titular actor, will also see him team up with a bunch of friends from his college days in Maharajas College, Kochi.

The film, which is directed by debutant Abhishek KS and scripted by Anuraj OB, has three heroines – Sona, Shivagami and Nandana Rajan. Apart from the trio and the lead actor, Senthil Krishna, Johny Antony and Balachandran Chullikkadu will be seen in pivotal roles.

The team will reportedly shoot in Chottanikkara for three days before moving to its principal location of Maharajas College in Kochi. Coincidentally, Maharajas College is also the actor and director’s alma mater and Antony will be seen playing a college student in the film, which also has Angamaly Diaries co-star Kichu Tellus and Sreeja Nair.

The film will mark a shift from the action thrillers that the actor has been part of his career including Angamaly Diaries, Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil and Ajagajantharam. Antony, m eanwhile, also has two more films lined up for release – Aanaparamabile World Cup and Innale Vare.

In Nikhil Premraj’s Aanaparambile World Cup, the actor plays a football player named Hisham who coaches a group of children for an U-12 tournament, as he awaits a signing from a leading football club. The movie also has Balu Varghese, Manoj K Jayan and Saiju Kurup in pivotal roles.

Innale Vare, which is touted to be a thriller, is director Jis Joy’s first crack at the genre, after helming feel-good movies such as Sunday Holiday, Bicycle Thieves and Vijay Superum Pournamiyum. The film, written by Bobby and Sanjay, also has Asif Ali, Nimisha Sajayan and Reba Monica John. The shoot of the movie concluded last year and the team had revealed its first look poster recently.
