Antony Varghese’s Poovan delayed, here’s the new release date of the feel-good family entertainer

Oh Meri Laila actor Antony Varghese’s next release, Poovan, has got a new release date. The makers, who had initially announced that the film would hit theatres on January 6, took to their social media page on New Year’s day to reveal that the movie has been pushed further.

The film, which has Antony essaying the lead role, marks the debut directorial of Super Sharanya actor Vineeth Vasudevan. In an earlier interview with us, Vineeth said that the film is a comedy drama and the story evolves against the backdrop of Christmas.

Also starring Vineeth Vasudevan, Vineeth Vishwam, Sajin Cherukayil, Varun Dhara, Akhila Bhargavan Gireesh AD and Anishma Anilkumar, the film focuses not just on Antony’s character but his entire neighbourhood. “A rooster also plays a pivotal role in the movie, which is akin to some of the earlier Sathyan Anthikad films,” said the filmmaker.

Poovan’s release date has been delayed by two weeks, with the team now announcing that the film will hit theatres on January 20. The movie’s OTT rights, meanwhile, have been bagged by ZEE5, which had previously bought the streaming rights for Super Sharanya and Thattassery Koottam.

Antony’s last release was Abhishek KS’ campus romcom Oh Meri Laila, which also has Senthil Krishna, Anuraj OB, Sona Olickal, Nandana Rajan and Shivakami as part of its cast. The movie, which released in theatres on December 23, revolved around a youngster named Lailasuran who falls in love with twin sisters – Mary and Clara.

The actor, meanwhile, has wrapped up the shoot of his third collaboration with Tinu Pappachan after Swanthanthryam Ardharathriyil and Ajagajantharam. Titled Chaaver, the film is an action-thriller that is scripted by Joy Mathew and has Kunchacko Boban and Arjun Ashokan as part of the cast. Antony is currently shooting for another multi-starrer named RDX, which also has Neeraj Madhav and Shane Nigam as part of its cast.
