Academy award winner A.R Rahman recently announced the OTT release of 99 Songs - a musical drama co-written and co-produced by him. The movie, which will be available to stream in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, is all set to release on Netflix on May 21. 99 Songs made its world premiere at the 24th Busan International Film Festival where the film was screened in the Open Cinema category in 2019.
With the tagline of ‘A.R. Rahman’s Musical Masterpiece’, the movie promises to provide the audience with an experience like never before. This Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy directorial was released in theatres on April 22 this year and received mixed responses from the audience. But one aspect of the film that was appreciated by everyone was the great songs it had to offer and how it appeals to a niche community of musicians with nuances that only they can understand completely.
99 Songs stars debutant Ehan Bhatt and Edilsy Vargas in lead roles. The plot follows the life of Jay (Bhatt), an aspiring musician who has struggled to follow his passion. He falls in love with a mute girl Sophia (Vargas) who is the daughter of an arrogant rich industrialist who does not believe that Jay will be a successful musician. When Jay and Sophia stand their ground, her father gives Jay a challenge - to compose 100 songs before he can ask for Sophia’s hand in marriage. When Jay accepts this and sets out to complete the mission, both the couple’s lives are completely changed.
