It is official and out there that Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan has been postponed from its expected release date on January 9. Touted as the star’s final film before he retires from cinema, Jana Nayagan makers had announced the postponement in a statement, while not have specified any particular release date. However, Yash’s Toxic having March release (same producers as Jana Nayagan), with April and May being election months, Jana Nayagan must come sometime in January or February.

Vijay’s Jana Nayagan was expected to take the big opening ahead of Pongal festivities and be the first biggie to release in Tamil cinema. However now, that is not the case, the makers are yet to announce a new release date. Jana Nayagan faced last-minute delays due to censor formalities, with the High Court reserving its orders on January 9, the release date. On that note, the producers of the film expressed their disappointment in bringing the film to theatres as expected.

Now, circling on a new release date, it is highly unlikely that the film will hit theatres in April and May given Tamil Nadu will be busy with elections, especially with Vijay set to contest. It is also not possible for the producers to release the film in March given they have Yash’s Toxic scheduled. Only January and February are left for Jana Nayagan makers. If the film secures a date in January, Jana Nayagan can make its way for a smooth release still.

Jana Nayagan might also take a February release if the makers find January dates not viable. There are also rumours speculating that Suriya-starrer Karuppu is eyeing for February release. However, both Jana Nayagan and Karuppu producers are yet to make it official about their release dates.
