As Kuberaa nears OTT release, Sekhar Kammula returns to his roots with Nani's next

Sekhar Kammula's latest film, Kuberaa, is all set for its OTT release on July 18, 2025. On the other hand, he has started prepping for his next Telugu film.

Kubera is one of Telugu cinema’s biggest hits in 2025. The social drama did extremely well in the Telugu states, but that was not the case in other languages. Being a Dhanush starrer, Kubera made only ₹20 crore in Tamil, which is a big disappointment.

In Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada, Kuberaa was a big flop at the box office. Though the film was praised, the box office results were mixed. That is the reason the makers decided to opt for a digital release within one month of its theatrical release. Kubera is all set to stream on Amazon Prime Video from July 18, 2025.

On the other hand, Sekhar Kammula is on a break and will soon start scripting for his next film that will feature Nani as the main lead. One of the sources close to his team has revealed to us that he will not make a pan-India film next. This is because he expected Kuberaa to do well across the country, but as it didn’t, he is back to his roots and will make a film for the Telugu audience, with a basic song-and-dance routine.

Not many know that he has been in talks with Nani for the longest time, but now the project has been locked. Our source goes on to add that Sekhar Kammula will surely pen a memorable romantic family drama featuring Nani, and this time, it will not cater to a broad audience. He wants Nani to bring back the old-school romance with a song-and-dance routine.

Asian Cinemas to produce Sekhar Kammula's next

The news is also that Sekhar Kammula will try a new family drama set in today’s sensibilities, and that is the reason he needs at least a year to write the script and complete pre-production. By then, Nani will also complete two pending films. The makers of Kuberaa, Asian Cinemas, will bankroll Sekhar Kammula’s next film as well.

On the other hand, Kuberaa grossed just over ₹150 crore at the box office and is eagerly awaited on OTT. Earlier, there were reports that deleted scenes would be added, but that is not the case.
