The makers of the upcoming Malayalam multi-starrer, Athiradi, have dropped an update on its theatrical release today (January 10). The movie, which stars Basil Joseph, Tovino Thomas and Vineeth Sreenivasan, will hit the big screen in May 2026. Here's what we know...

Athiradi new release date

This full-fledged entertainer will debut on May 15 during the school vacations, according to a recent notice. The original plan was for it to debut in Onam 2026. The cause of the change in release date is not known. It is reasonable to presume, though, that the film aims to avoid conflict with Prithviraj's much awaited action thriller, Khalifa, which will be released in Onam 2026.

In October 2025, actor and director Basil Joseph started filming Athiradi, his debut production. Paulson Skaria and Arun Anirudhan wrote the screenplay for Athiradi, which is touted to be a college-based drama.

In addition to Darshana Rajendran and Zarin Shihab, Riya Shibu is reportedly set to play one of the female leads. Riya, the sister of actor Hridhu Haroon, most recently starred alongside Nivin Pauly in Sarvam Maya. She has received a lot of acclaim and attention for her endearing depiction of the ghost, Delulu, in this family entertainer, which was released on December 25.
