Aanand L. Rai is back, this time with some ‘atrangi’ actors namely Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush, for his upcoming film Atrangi Re. The audiences are excited to know what this atrangi story consists of. While the movie promises a twist, the audiences are aware about its basic plot so far. A love triangle

The only obvious thing about Atrangi Re is that the movie has a love triangle betweent the leads. Dhanush and Akshay Kumar are both in love with Sara Ali Khan. However, she has to pick one among them. Who will this ‘Chaka Chak’ lady pick between the men? One thing is for sure, there is some twist in the film that is not very clear till the movie's release.

Aanand L. Rai’s collaboration with Dhanush after nine long years

It took nine years for Dhanush and Aanand L. Rai to come back together. They worked in Raanjhanaa, which starred Dhanush in the lead role. The movie is still loved by many, especially for the last scene where the film explored where failed love takes people.

A.R. Rahman collaborates with both after Raanjhanaa too

Raanjhanaa is also known for its songs. The tracks were composed by A.R Rahman, who has also worked on Atrangi Re with the duo – Aanand L. Rai and Dhanush.

Dhanush croons a song

Dhanush has lent his voice for a surprise song in Atrangi Re. The actor became a pan Indian star when his song Why This Kolaveri Di from his movie 13 went viral on the internet. The actor started a whole trend through the video.

Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan and Aanand L. Rai’s first movie together

Atrangi Re is also special because Akshay Kumar and Sara Ali Khan are coming together. This is also the first time when Aanand L. Rai directs them, that too in a love story. It would be interesting where the atrangi story takes us.

Pandemic film

Atrangi Re was shot in 2020. It commenced shooting in Lucknow and was halted post the first wave. The makers announced the film’s wrap in December 2020 but it was completely wrapped up on March 27, 2021, almost a year after the movie began shooting.

Originally a Valentine’s Day release

Atrangi Re was initially supposed to release on February 14, 2021. However, since a few portions of the film had to be shot even after its December wrap, the release of this movie had to be delayed. The movie was then announced to release on August 6, 2021 but that could also not materialize. Finally, Atrangi Re is slated for Christmas release i.e. on December 24.

Sara Ali Khan’s second direct-to-OTT and Christmas release

This is the second film Sara features in that has a direct-to-OTT release. Back in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, her movie with Varun Dhawan, Coolie No 1, released on December 24. Now, the actress is gearing up for Atrangi Re's release exactly a year later.

Bi-lingual release

Owing to Dhanush's roots in Tamil, Atrangi Re is also releasing in Tamil also with the Hindi version. The movie was shot in Tamil and has been named Galatta Kalyanam. Both the versions will be available for streaming on Disney+Hotstar.
