Netflix’s live-action adaptation has some new additions to its cast. Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Kim’s Convenience) will play Uncle Iroh, Lim Kay Siu (Anna and the King) will portray Air Nomad Gyatso, and Ken Leung (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) has been cast as Zhao.

The original animated series aired for three seasons on Nickelodeon from February 2005 to July 2008.

The show follows Aang and his friends, who have to save the world by battling Fire Lord Ozai to end the war with the Fire Nation.

In the Netflix series Gordon Cormier (CBS All Access show The Stand) will be seen as Aang with newcomers Kiawentiio and Ian Ousley playing the protagonist’s best friends Katara and Sokka, respectively. Prince Zuko is Dallas Liu, while antagonist Fire Lord Ozai will be played by Daniel Dae Kim.

M Night Shyamalan had adapted the TV show for screen in 2010. However, the film bombed at the box office, and was panned for its plot, acting, and a primarily white cast.

Last year, the show’s original creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino had exited the project, which was announced in 2018, over creative differences.

In a statement, DiMartino had said that while Netflix had promised to honour their vision, things did not turn out the way they had hoped. There was some skepticism regarding the show’s future after the duo’s departure, but it seems now the adaptation is in full swing.
