The Marathi series is releasing on ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium on October 31, 2025. The original Tamil series Ayali is also streaming on the same platforms, and available in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Bengali languages.
The story promises to portray the indomitable spirit of a teenage girl named Ahilya who refuses to give up on her dreams to become a doctor at a time where women are oppressed by societal expectations. A tale of women's empowerment, the series will depict the importance of female education in India as women question the oppressive societal customs.
Directed by Nipun Dharmadhikari, the series will highlight how people blindly followed the 500-year-old patriarchal tradition of marrying off young girls before they hit puberty. Through Baai Tujhyapayi, the whole crew wanted to remind audiences that change often begins with one determined voice, according to Nipun.
While Sajiri Joshi portrayed the lead role of Ahilya Veskar, her mother's role is played by Kshitee Jog. Other pivotal characters are played by Siddhesh Dhuri, Shivraj Waichal, Vibhavari Deshpande, Anil Kamble, Anil More, and Gautami Kachi.
Baai Tujhyapayi is the first web series of Sajiri Joshi, who made her film debut with the Marathi movie, April May 99. Meanwhile, Kshitee Jog has done some popular TV shows like Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann (2006-2009), Navya.. Naye Dhadkan Naye Sawaal (2011-2012), Baatein Kuch Ankahee Si (2023-2024), Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (2009-present), and more.
The 2-minute video not only focuses on a girl's life, rather tells the story about breaking barriers, reclaiming voice, and redefining what it means to be free through her eyes. The trailer highlights a tradition where only maiden women can enter the temple, while others will be punished if they violate the norm.
The video gradually turns to Ahilya's life as she's seen borrowing a local doctor's stethoscope, and daydreaming of becoming a doctor. Ahilya is also shown as a topper in the class and then garnered compliments from her teachers.
The trailer takes a dark turn when her father shows no interest in Ahilya's education and her winning medals, leaving her and her mother in shock. As Ahilya's life takes a toll with this oppressive tradition, she is determined to break free from everything.
