Ever since Salman Khan announced a sequel to Bajrangi Bhaijaan will soon make its way to screens, fans have been patiently waiting for updates regarding the same with bated breath. V. Vijayendra Prasad, who penned the script of the original film, will return to write the sequel as well. The writer recently opened up about the upcoming sequel, which is titled Pawan Putra Bhaijaan.

In conversation with Pinkvilla, Prasad said that even though the sequel will be a continuation of the first film’s story, it would involve a time leap. The upcoming film’s story would be set about 8 to ten years after the events of the 2015 film. The filmmaker added that he had already explained the outline of the story to Khan, and the actor had ‘loved it’. Prasad was now waiting for Khan to decide on the timelines so they could get working on the sequel. “I am hopeful that the sequel will be no lesser than the first part", added the filmmaker.

The sequel to the acclaimed film had been announced by Khan last year, during a promotional event for the SS Rajamouli directorial RRR, which the director had penned with Prasad.

The 2015 film followed the story of Pawan Kumar, a man who crosses paths with a young mute Pakistani girl, Shahida, who is lost in India. Together, they embark on a journey back to Shahida’s parents. In addition to Khan, the film also features Harshaali Malhotra, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sharat Saxena, Alka Badola Kaushal and Meher Vijin in key roles. Malhotra had told Pinkvilla earlier that she was waiting for a call from Khan to start working on the film, and that she hoped the sequel would go on floors soon.

The film, directed by Kabir Khan, had gone on to become a hit with fans and critics alike, even winning a national award. Bajrangi Bhaijaan can be streamed on Disney+Hotstar.
