A new slice-of-life series, focusing on a family drama, Bakaiti, is coming on ZEE5 on August 1. It will also be available for streaming on OTTplay Premium.
The makers have shared the trailer for Bakaiti, where a middle-class Kataria family deals with their own bickering, banter, and blowups. No matter how intense the quarrel, they always find a way back to each other. Even though they don't express much, they have an undeniable love for each other. The family faces a financial crisis, and for this, they decide to rent one room of their house, leading to chaos.
It is set amidst the chaos of old Ghaziabad. In the Kataria family, 21-year-old Naina (Tanya Sharma), ambitious and determined, is suddenly forced to share her world with her younger brother Bharat (Aditya Shukla)—a cricket-crazy, boundary-blind teenager who survives on mischief. Their daily bickering is exposed under the watchful eye of their parents, Sanjay (Rajesh Tailang) and Sushma (Sheeba Chadha), who struggle with unspoken grief, mounting stress, financial instability, and the hardships of daily living.
As the family faces the crisis, Bharat and Naina come up with business ideas, but will they succeed in that? The series explores family dynamics, love, and understanding each other through tough times.
Speaking about Bakaiti, Rajesh said that it's a story that feels alive, as if it were a memory from your own past. His character Sanjay reminded him of so many fathers—silent providers, emotional anchors, and sometimes accidental comedians.
"There’s beauty in the everyday, and this series captures it with so much heart. I feel grateful to reunite with Sheeba ji and work with a team that values nuance, humour, and the tender messiness of family life," he shared.
Sheeba Chadha said that being a part of Bakaiti feels like stepping into a world that is incredibly familiar but rarely shown with such honesty.
'Playing Sushma reminded me how laughter and love can thrive even in the chaos. I’m thrilled to bring this relatable story to life with such a heartfelt team," she said."
Produced by Dice Media Production and directed by Ameet Guptha, Bakaiti premieres on ZEE5 (OTTplay Premium) on August 1.
