With a series of films that demonstrated his skills as both a director and a performer, Malayalam actor and filmmaker Basil Joseph gained widespread recognition. He discussed why he hasn't directed a film since the Tovino Thomas-starrer Minnal Murali, in an interview with The Hollywood Times.

After helming Minnal Murali in 2021, Basil revealed that he was on the verge of directing two more films and that he had a strong desire to direct again. "I had no control over the reasons behind the halting of these projects. But I wasn't lazing because they consumed so much of my time and resources with so many rewrites," he remarked.
The actor conveyed his guilt and disappointment about the projects' discontinuation. "You have to make it within a time limit because movies and concepts have a shelf life," he said. The Nunakuzhi actor added that he has not committed on to do a new movie since October last year and that he has slowed down his acting schedule significantly.

Basil disclosed that his next film is a big project that requires all of his focus. "This movie demands a big budget, stellar star cast, and a lot of duration to make," he said. He continued by saying that he is missing the appeal of watching a single concept develop with every step of filmmaking. Apart from Minnal Murali, Basil has also directed Godha and Kunjiramayanam.
According to sources, Basil is playing a pivotal role in Sudha Kongara's upcoming Tamil film, Parasakthi. The political thriller also stars Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Sreeleela and Atharvaa Murali in lead roles. His recent Malayalam film was Maranamass which is streaming in multiple languages on Sony LIV as well as OTTplay Premium. The actor also appeared in a lead role in the critically acclaimed films, Ponman and Pravinkoodu Shappu. Both of them are accessible on JioHotstar and Sony LIV respectively via OTTplay Premium.
