Vivah (2006)

Helmed by Sooraj Barjatya, Vivah, starring Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao, showcases the life of Prem, a man set to tie the knot to the innocent and naive Poonam in an arranged marriage. After Poonam suffers burn injuries two days before her marriage, how Prem showcases the strength of his love by deciding to marry her is the plotline of the film.

Director: Sooraj Barjatya

Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Amrita Rao and Amrita Prakash

Run time: 2 hours and 40 minutes

Genre: Romantic drama

Jab We Met (2007)

Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan-starrer Jab We Met is a cult classic Bollywood film, directed by Imtiaz Ali. The film tells the tale of Aditya, a man reeling from heartbreak, who meets Geet during a train journey. The film tracks how Aditya falls in love with Geet but parts with her only for the duo to reunite years later.

Deewane Huye Paagal (2005)

Helmed by Vikram Bhatt, Deewane Huye Paagal, starring Shahid Kapoor, Rimi Sen and Akshay Kumar is a comedy drama. The film centres around Natasha (Rimi) who becomes a witness to a crime and leaves the country to settle in Dubai. Natasha’s partner, Karan (Shahid) goes after her for the sake of his love only to find out that other suitors are also in line to win over Natasha.

Ishq Vishk (2003)

Ishq Vishk marked Shahid’s entry into Bollywood. The film, directed by Ken Ghosh, features a love triangle involving the lead trio of Shahid, Amrita Rao and Shenaz Treasurywala. Rajiv and Payal are best friends, but their equation gets disrupted with the arrival of Alisha. How Rajiv realises his love for Payal and comes to terms with his emotions is beautifully portrayed in the film.

Director: Ken Ghosh

Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Amrita Rao and Shenaz Treasurywala

Run time: 2 hours and 10 minutes

Genre: Romantic comedy

Fida (2004)

Fida, starring Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Fardeen Khan, is one of my favourite Bollywood films. Fida is a mix of drama, love, anger and frustration, all culminating in this crime drama film, which gives an illusion of being a romantic film in the beginning. After Jai (Shahid) falls in love with Neha (Kareena), he commits a robbery at a rich billionaire’s house who tells him to take the money and in return take the blame for the crime the billionaire has committed.

Director: Ken Ghosh

Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Fardeen Khan

Run time: 1 hour and 57 minutes

Genre: Romantic thriller
