The latest promo saw contestant Binny Sebastian narrating her personal life, especially her mother’s ordeal while working as a Gaddama. The other housemates are also seen getting teary-eyed while listening to her heart-wrenching story.

In one of the promos shared by Asianet, Binny is seen narrating the troubles faced by her mother, who got a job as a Gaddama. For the unversed, the term Gaddama refers to people working as housemaids in the Gulf regions.

Recounting the horrors that her mother suffered, an emotional Binny said, “My mother went there when I was 3. She used to get beaten up and was sometimes, even not given food. But she suffered everything, for our future. Even phone calls, she will only call occasionally.” Her father was mostly absent from her family, though he was there in the same native place.

Other contestants were also seen getting emotional, and teary-eyed as they listened to Binny’s story.

Gaddama

Scores of Malayali women have migrated to the Gulf over the last several decades, working as Gaddama in the Middle East. The travails of Gaddama were also depicted in a Malayalam film, starring Kavya Madhavan in the lead role. In the film, which is also titled Gaddama, Kavya played Ashwathi who worked as a housemaid in Saudi Arabia.
