Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the film stars Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender. What's the plot of Black Bag?

The spy thriller centers around a gripping plot involving a stolen code named Severus, which can even be used to cause a meltdown of nuclear reactors, and the investigation into a potential mole within their organisation. Spy agent George (Michael Fassbender) has been tasked to find out the mole, and his wife (Cate Blanchett) is the prime suspect.

Besides Fassbender and Blanchett, Black Bag also features Regé-Jean Page, Marisa Abela, Naomie Harris, Tom Burke, and Pierce Brosnan in pivotal roles.

Michael Fassbender's take on the Black Bag script

Back in March, lead actor Michael Fassbender had an insightful chat with the IndieWire portal. He stated that, according to him, the script has a fantastic collection of characters. He confidently stated that we just don’t see many films like Black Bag these days. Michael also pointed out that it's hard for companies to support films in that budget category because there are not many $30 to $40 million films anymore.

About the script, Fassbender further shared that it is like a psychological warfare going on between the fascinating characters in Black Bag. There are a couple of visceral moments in the film that are quite violent. The crackling scenes of dialogue and intellect between these characters propelled him forward to sign the project.

Meanwhile, another Hindi espionage thriller series, Special Ops Season 2 will drop on JioHotstar (OTTplay Premium) on July 18, 2025.
