Varun Dhawan just pulled off Sidharth Malhotra's Shershaah with Border 2 trailer - but did the dialogue land and create as much impact?

Now that Border 2 trailer is out, Varun Dhawan has given us a déjà vu of his contemporary, Sidharth Malhotra once again. The actor, who plays the role of on-screen Colonel Hoshiar Singh Dahiya in Border 2, has just set off the vibe of Sidharth Malhotra in Shershaah with one dialogue alone. While Varun narrated the dialogue to his lover in Border 2, Shershaah starring Kiara Advani as Sidharth’s lover, saw the dialogue being orated to Shershaah's friend, played by Sahil Vaid. Still wondering what are we talking about? Here’s recollecting the dialogues…

The Border 2 trailer focuses on Sunny Deol but Varun Dhawan tries to leave an impact with his dialogue as well. This dialogue, narrated to his on-screen wife played by Medha Rana, is, “Ghabraane ki toh koi baat hi na hai. Fauji hoon, waapis toh aana hi hai. Ya toh jeet kar ya yaad bann kar, lekin aana zaroor hai!”
The similarity between the dialogue orated by Varun Dhawan in Border 2 and the one narrated by Sidharth in Shershaah stresses upon their confirmed return. “Oye fikar naa kar jaani, tiranga lehra kar aaoonga. Nahi toh usme lipat ke aaoonga – lekin aaoonga zaroor haan!,” a filmy Shershaah, played by Sidharth Malhotra had said in the direct-to-OTT release. He had orated the dialogue to his friend, played by Sahil Vaid.
Back when the My Name Is Khan ADs Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra were launched in Bollywood, it was through Karan Johar’s Student of the Year which released in 2012. In the movie, they went from enemies-to-friends and back. However, the buzz was that their equation was similar off-screen too. Although they never shared enmity per say, cold vibes were reported and they were often seen as competing with one another. It began with Varun signing the romantic film Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania with Alia Bhatt right after SOTY, and Sidharth working on a romantic film, Hasee Toh Phasee opposite Parineeti Chopra, too. The second instance was when Varun Dhawan worked on Badlapur, which was a revenge story starring him and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Sidharth filmed Ek Villain co-starring Riteish Deshmukh (both female protagonists Yami Gautam and Shraddha Kapoor respectively die under mysterious circumstances and the lead protagonist seeks revenge). All the movies were Box Office hits at the time, and eventually, the comparisons stopped. That is, till Varun tried Sidharth’s Shershaah formula for Border 2. Do let us know whether that worked for you!
