Brahmastra director Ayan Mukerji says Ranbir Kapoor-led film is not an end in itself, but a means to a larger end

Brahmastra Part One: Shiva has already captured the attention of cinema fans around the country. Ayan Mukerji, who helms the Ranbir Kapoor starrer, has now opened up about the movie and the many possibilities that lie ahead of him.

Mukerji told Variety, ”Brahmastra is not an end in itself, but it’s a means to a larger end. We have part two and part three ahead of us, we have the potential to really take the storytelling in many diverse directions even beyond Brahmastra.” He also accepted that there is no way to achieve this without the movie’s audience base increasing.

Mukerji added that the idea is to start with some strong baby steps with the first part and that with capturing Disney’s attention, the movie could get a wider release. He further added that he hopes that this can bring in bigger and wider returns.

The “Astraverse” will consist of three movies, which will follow the characters on an adventure. The movie is set in contemporary India where a secret society guards the asthras mentioned in our mythological texts. As the Brahmastra, the most powerful among the divine weapons threatens to destroy the world, the protagonists’ lives will change forever.

The director also revealed that basic storylines for the second and third movies are in place and only need to be developed into scripts. Mukerji has also previously worked with Kapoor on two movies, Wake Up Sid (2009) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013).

Brahmastra Part One: Shiva is produced by Star Studios, Dharma Productions, Prime Focus and Starlight Pictures and also stars Alia Bhatt as the female lead.

The movie, which also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy in important roles, is scheduled to hit theatres on September 9, 2022.
