Brat OTT release: Darling Krishna was paired with Manisha Kandkur in the film, which also starred Bhima fame Dragon Manju, Ramesh Indira and Achyuth Kumar, among others.

Brat, director Shashank Talya’s second consecutive collaboration with Darling Krishna after Kousalya Supraja Rama , released in theatres on October 31 to mixed reviews. The film, which the director said was targeted at youngsters, explored the perils of online betting. But despite the relevance and relatability of the subject, Brat didn’t pick up much momentum at the box office. Luckily for the team, though, they cracked an OTT deal and the film will be available to stream shortly.

Amazon Prime Video has picked up Brat, with the film set to begin streaming from November 28. Although Brat was initially announced as a pan-India project, closer to the theatrical release, Shashank said that dubbed versions would be out depending on the reception to the Kannada original and demand from other centres, given that both he and Krishna were not known names outside of Karnataka. While a theatrical outing in other languages did not happen, on OTT, Brat will be available in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi.

Shashank’s film was based on a story by Yadunandan and Ravi Chakravarthy, with the duo also chipping in with the screenplay. Music was by Arjun Janya, while cinematography was by Abhilash Kalathi. The film’s cast also included Manisha Kandkur, Achyuth Kumar, Ramesh Indira, Dragon Manju, Manasi Sudheer, among others.
After a family-centric film like Kousalya Supraja Rama that tackled male chauvinism and the fallout thereof, with Brat, Shashank shifted to a different tangent. A lower middle-class boy’s tricks to make a quick buck, using online cricket betting, was at the centre of the story, which, the filmmaker knew would appeal only to a section of audiences – those who follow cricket and indulge in betting as well.

Krishna’s character uses his knowledge of the game to predict possible outcomes and place relevant bets, which works well for him for a while, until one of his big guesses goes wrong. To make matters worse, the bookie absconds, putting Krishna, aka Kristy, in the crosshairs of a mafia don running a betting racket.
