Kannada filmmaker Shashank’s second collaboration with Darling Krishna, after their successful venture Kousalya Supraja Rama, is Brat, an action-packed drama that is expected to be in theatres in September this year. On the occasion of leading man Krishna’s birthday on June 12, Shashank, who had earlier released a first-look teaser to officially announce the film and the title, followed it up with another to establish why the protagonist becomes money hungry.

Brat teaser reveals why Christy becomes a money-hungry brat

In the latest teaser, Krishna’s character Christy, the son of a police constable, is seen working hard and yet, the struggle to make ends meet remains. As the frustration of not being able to afford even necessities builds, all hell breaks loose when Christy sees a dog being chauffeured around in a Benz, while he’s out and about on a bike, and being subjected not only to the harsh weather, but also all the pollution. That’s the last straw for him, as he turns his life around to make it all about earning money, but not necessarily in the most honest manner.

Although Shashank has repeated heroes in his films, like Krishna Ajai Rao, it’s never before been back-to-back, so, with Brat, he’d said he needed to ensure that Darling Krishna’s character was, in no way reminiscent of his role in Kousalya Supraja Rama. For this, he needed a change of genre and a hero with shades of grey, which is the accepted norm these days.

The central crux of the film revolves around a father-son conflict, with veteran actor Achyuth Kumar in the role of the father. Achyuth, interestingly, is a part of the police party that comes to apprehend Krishna, as seen in the new teaser. Manisha Kandkur, of Bhale Unnade fame, makes her Kannada film debut, in Brat, which, incidentally, is being backed by her father, Manjunath Kandkur, who’d earlier made First Rank Raju. The film features music by Arjun Janya, and is set to be released in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi.
