As a filmmaker, Rishab Shetty has made a mark for himself with films like Ricky, Kirik Party and Sarkaru Hiriya Prathamika Shaale: Kasaragode. In the four years since his last directorial, Rishab has acted in several films and even produced a few. A directorial was much awaited, which will be fulfilled this year when he brings his next, Kantara to theatres.

The film, produced by Hombale Films, which has Rishab, Sapthami Gowda, Pramod Shetty, Kishore and Achyuth Kumar on its cast, has been announced as a September 30 release, in time for the Dasara festivities. Rishab, it would seem, has been burning the midnight oil to ensure that the film is on schedule to meet this date with audiences. Along with a couple of pictures of him in the editing suite, Rishab posted, “Ode to the wonderful days and nights spent on the edit sessions, Soaking in the divine world of ‘KANTARA’ We explored the unexpected and went on to traverse #Kantara in all its mystic glory. Closing the final editing of KANTARA. Can’t wait to show this world with you all.”

Since the film was launched, Rishab has been quite guarded about its subject, revealing only that Kantara has an element of fantasy in it and explores a human vs nature conflict in the setting of a mystical forest. Kantara has been shot by cinematographer Aravind S. Kashyap and Ajaneesh B. Loknath has scored the music.

At the moment, Kantara is poised for a three-way clash at the box office, as far as Kannada releases are concerned. Jaggesh’s latest collaboration with director Vijayaprasad, Thotapuri (Part 1) has been announced for September 30, as has Dhruva Sarja’s film with AP Arjun, Martin. The buzz in the industry, though, is that Martin is likely to be postponed, but there has been no official word from the team.
