CCL 2025 Day 7: Match 13 Bengal Tigers remain undefeated as they head to semis with commanding win over the Telugu Warriors

Jammy Banerjee was yet again the star of the Bengal Tigers as they defeated Telugu Warriors

The defending champions won the toss and chose to bat first, perhaps buoyed by the fact that in Dday 1 of the Surat leg of CCL 2025, the winning teams – Chennai Rhinos and Punjab De Sher – set targets and successfully defended them. They’d need a big score and ensure that their opponents do not get close to it. But when the Tigers came out to bat, it wasn’t a free flow of runs, as the Warriors restricted them to only 106 for the loss of 2, most of which came from Jammy Banerjee (78).

Very doable, one would think for a side like the Warriors, but it was not to be, as the Tigers restricted them to 87 for 5 in their first set of 10 overs. A lead of only 15 is not a big deal if the second innings score isn’t big, but Jammy ensured that the Tigers amassed 128, 54 of which came from his unbeaten knock. The final tally for the Tigers was 147 runs.

Chasing 148 for the win would be a big task for any team, but with big hitters Thaman and Aswhin Babu in the centre, the hope was that they’d give the Warriors a good start, which the rest of the team could build on. This was not that day, though. Aswhin perished for a duck, as did Samrat who came in next. Thaman departed making only 18, leaving skipper Akhil as the lone warrior for the side, as he lost partner after partner for scores not worth mentioning.

Akhil bravely soldiered on and got his team as close to the target as he could, but with no support from the rest of the team, there was only so much that even he could do. The Warriors fell short of the target by 16 runs, meaning that it would be the end of the road for them in the tournament. With only 1 win in their quota of 4 group stage matches, it would not be enough to take them to the top 4.

The final match of the group stage will have Punjab De Sher in action against the Mumbai Heroes. Live telecast of the match is available on JioHotstar.
