Champion is Roshan Meka’s second film after his debut Pelli SandaD, which ended as an average fare at the box office. It took close to five years for Roshan to act in his second film, Champion, which hit the screens on December 25, 2025. Directed by Pradeep Advaitam, Champion was backed by the makers of Mahanati, Kalki 2898 AD, and Sita Ramam, but sadly ended as a big flop at the box office.

We at OTTplay have already revealed that Netflix has bagged the digital rights to the film and will stream it from January 29, 2026. Ahead of the film’s OTT release, we have now come to know that Netflix shelled out Rs 16 crore to acquire the digital rights.

This is a decent amount considering the hero’s market. However, the makers spent big money, as Champion was made on a budget of Rs 45 crore, leading to losses.

The OTT deal materialised largely due to the production house’s strong track record with big hits in the past. Despite knowing that Roshan does not command major stardom yet, the makers believed in the period drama and went all out. Unfortunately, Champion ended as a cost failure and did not even collect Rs 15 crore at the box office.

The film revolves around a young football player whose dream is to play for an English club. Just when he is about to fulfil his ambition, he gets drawn into the freedom struggle and rises against the British during the Razakar rule in Telangana.
