All eyes are on Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava, which has become the talk of the town for various reasons. The film, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, is one of the biggest and most anticipated movies of the year. After multiple delays and postponed release dates, the movie is finally back on track, and promotions have begun in full swing. As per the latest update, the makers have released the first song, Jaane Tu, a musical tribute to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Maharani Yesubai. Read on to know more.
Yes, you read that right! Chhaava is also highly anticipated for its music, as it is composed by none other than the maestro AR Rahman. This marks the second collaboration between filmmaker Laxman Utekar and Rahman after their successful film Mimi. The song Jaane Tu is sung by Arijit Singh, composed by Rahman, and penned by the much-loved Irshad Kamil. Rahman and Kamil have previously given Hindi cinema some of its most iconic albums, including Rockstar, Raanjhanaa, Amar Singh Chamkila, Tamasha, and more.
Now released along with its video, Jaane Tu captures Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s homecoming from what appears to be a war. Maharani Yesubai walks toward him with longing, welcoming him with love in her eyes. The video beautifully portrays their moments together, showcasing Yesubai as a devoted wife praying for her husband's well-being as he embarks on another battle. The emotions are magical and heartfelt. Sharing the song on Instagram, the makers wrote, “Some bonds are beyond time, beyond words, etched forever in history. Presenting #JaaneTu - a musical tribute to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Maharani Yesubai. Composed by @arrahman, sung by @arijitsingh, and penned by @irshadkamilofficial. Song out now.”
For the uninitiated, Chhaava is directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Pictures. The film is based on the life of the second Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who ruled from 1681 to 1689. Set on a grand scale, the movie also stars Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale, Divya Dutta as Sambhaji Maharaj’s stepmother Soyarabai, and Akshaye Khanna as Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The newly released posters have further fueled excitement for the film's trailer, which is set to release on January 22, 2025.
Recently, the film landed in controversy when certain groups questioned the filmmakers' creative choice to depict Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj dancing, arguing that the king never did so in real life. Reportedly, after politician Raj Thackeray advised Laxman Utekar to remove the scene, Utekar obliged and edited it out of the film.
Chhaava's trailer released on January 22, 2025, and the movie is set to hit the big screen on February 14, 2025. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more updates on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
