Chowkidar: Pruthvi Ambaar-Saikumar led family drama sets release date; trailer out now

Pruthvi Ambaar is getting his first release of the year with Chowkidar, a film that’s been censored and ready for release since last September. Directed by Chandrashekar Bandiyappa of Rathavara fame, Chowkidar is an emotionally-charged family drama that also sees Pruthvi in a more action-backed role. On January 14, the team released the trailer of the film, and revealed the date on which it will be in theatres. Chowkidar has been slated for a January 30, 2026 release in theatres.

What is Pruthvi Ambar's Chowkidar about?

As per the trailer, Pruthvi plays Saikumar and Chaitrada Premanjali fame Shwetha’s only son in the film. Saikumar’s voiceover explains that he was one of many siblings and that his father was often unable to provide all that his children needed. He, on the other hand, has just the one son and his focus has been squarely on ensuring that all that the youngster would ever need is made available to him.

For the son, though, this attention showered by his parents feels like an imposition of their dreams on him, as they vicariously enjoy whatever they wanted through him. The trailer also hints at intense loss and desperation that sees both father and son seek solace in alcohol. Can Pruthvi’s character turn his life around after all?

Chowkidar pairs Pruthvi with Dhanya Ramkumar, while Sudharani, Dharma, Muniraju, Arjun Kautilya, Benjimin Sandeep, Prashant Gouli are also a part of the cast. Music is by Sachin Basrur, while Siddu Kanchanahalli has handled cinematography.

Pruthvi had 3 releases in 2025, 2 in Kannada and 1 in Telugu, but none ignited the box office. In fact, the actor has not had a notable film since 2020’s Dia and has spoken about the need to prove himself as a commercially viable hero before offers begin to dry up.
