Released just a week ago, The Tomorrow War is already breaking records on digital streaming platform Amazon Prime Video. Thanks to this popularity, the sequel of The Tomorrow War is already under development, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Amazon Studios and Skydance are collaborating for a sequel to the sci-fi movie featuring Marvel actor Chris Pratt. Chris Mckay will make a return donning the director's hat alongside screenwriter Zach Dean. The majority of the cast including Yvonne Strahovski, J.K. Simmons, Betty Gilpin and Sam Richardson alongside Pratt will also be returning for the second instalment of the film.

The sci-fi film is set in the future in 2051, revolving around concepts of time travel. In a fight against outer-worldly alien creatures, a group of time travellers are called in to save the world. This group of people travel back in time to the present day to send across the message that thirty years into the future, the entire mankind will be waging a war against deadly creatures. In order to save the world, present-day soldiers need to be transported to the future to join hands in the fight. Making into the present day recruits is a family man and high school teacher Dan Forester who joins the team in an attempt to save the planet for his daughter.

The Tomorrow War released on Amazon Prime Videos on July 2 and is raking up strong numbers on the platform as per lead actor Chris Pratt. Amazon, like other streaming platforms, does not reveal viewership numbers, however, Pratt celebrated the release of the film by posting on Instagram about the movie's record-breaking numbers in the first 48 hours.

The Tomorrow War was initially developed at Paramount, however earlier this year, Amazon Studios took over the project.
