Citadel: Varun Dhawan to train in martial arts for show with Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Raj & DK to start shoot in July

The shoot is said to kickstart in Mumbai and in some foreign locations.

Fans are excited and pumped up about the upcoming drama, Citadel. There are many reasons why. They are quite thrilled to see Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu together for the first time. Also, the drama is being helmed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, popularly known as Raj & DK.

Varun is collaborating with the duo Raj & DK for the first time while this will be Samantha's second project with the makers after The Family Man 2, the web series led by Manoj Bajpayee on Amazon Prime Video. The directors reportedly were also spotted with the actors in Mumbai earlier.

Now, there are some interesting updates about the project. According to Pinkvilla, Varun and Samantha will start shooting for Citadel in July, provided there is no delay or other challenges due to the pandemic. A source, close to the development, told the portal that the shoot will begin in July in Mumbai. Citadel will also be shot in some foreign locations. "The makers intend to shoot in some parts of Europe, however, they will finalise the exact locations after the recee, which is expected to begin soon," said the source adding that the makers are currently casting the supporting actors for the project.

Varun Dhawan will also take up rigorous training for his role in Citadel. The source further revealed that Varun will have some high-octane action sequences in the show, and he will be trained in martial arts for it. "He will start the training well in advance before he begins filming for the show,” adds the source. Varun is currently busy preparing for Nitesh Tiwari’s next. The shoot of the project is expected to be completed by June so that he can start filming for Citadel the following month.

Meanwhile, the filmmaker duo Raj & DK are busy completing the shoot of Guns & Gulaabs, the Netflix show, starring Dulquer Salmaan, Rajkummar Rao and Adarsh Gourav. Once they wrap up the shoot of the show, they will start with the reece and other pre-production works for for Citadel.
