Coolie, the much-anticipated Tamil film starring Rajinikanth in the lead role, is all set to drop its release date announcement soon on Friday. As we wait for Sun Pictures, which is bankrolling the film, the whole of Tamil cinema is awaiting to know the magical date, so as to schedule their releases accordingly through the rest of 2025. Some of them include Dhanush’s Idly Kadai, Karthi-starrer Sardar 2 and Madharasi featuring Sivakarthikeyan.

The announcement of Lokesh Kanagaraj directing Rajinikanth has kindled much anticipation in the Tamil film industry. Titled Coolie, the film is nearing completion with the makers ready to drop the release date announcement anytime Friday.

While all the films are nearly completed or finished, with the respective fan bases eagerly waiting for release, it is also common knowledge that no one would want to clash with a biggie like Rajinikanth, who has a massive fan base.

Coolie set to release for Independence Day weekend to recreate Jailer magic?

As per the buzz on social media, it is reported that Coolie is all set to release for the Independence Day weekend 2025. Rajinikanth’s earlier film with Sun Pictures, Jailer, too released for the same festive opening, resulting in commercial success.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie features an ensemble star cast, including Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj and others. Pooja Hegde will be doing a special number. Anirudh Ravichander is scoring for the film. Coolie is touted to be an action drama, and marks the first collaboration between Rajinikanth and Lokesh. However, the film does not fall under the LCU brand of films.
