Coolie release: Rajinikanth film has it all but loses to War 2 release with less to no IMAX screens?

Coolie

Coolie is naturally the next big film expected from Tamil cinema. Headlined by none other than Rajinikanth himself, and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film is set for a release on August 14 in theatres. But it looks like even as the film is big by all means, and has a star-studded cast, it's on the weaker side with its competitor War 2 taking almost all the IMAX screens.

Coolie release: War 2 takes over IMAX screens

Coolie is undoubtedly the most hyped film right now in Tamil cinema. The film, which stars Rajinikanth in the lead role, along with Upendra, Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj and Aamir Khan. With the film steady on its way for August 14 release, it looks like the Rajinkanth-starrer, after all, has to bow down to its competitor War 2, the upcoming Hindi film which is releasing on the same day.

With War 2 featuring Hrithik Roshan and Junior NTR taking the lead in bagging all the IMAX screens, there is little to none left for the Rajinikanth starrer. It is well known that the IMAX format requires the output to be submitted for screening well in advance. War 2 makers, Yash Raj Films, who are in close terms with IMAX screens, have gone a step in advance and reserved the IMAX screens for their film, while Coolie seems to be lagging behind. With the overseas bookings already opened for Coolie, countries like the USA will not have IMAX shows due to exclusive agreements with the War 2 makers.

Nevertheless of IMAX screenings, Coolie is still considered one of the much-anticipated Indian films in August. Lokesh Kanagaraj, who has already proved his mettle in direction, will be joining with Rajinikanth for the first time. Though not an LCU film, the plot of the film surfacing online has created much buzz among the audience. The music is scored by Anirudh Ravichander, and Sun Pictures is backing the film.
