#D56 is Kaatera after all; poster has netizens wondering if it is the remake of Dhanush’s Karnan
Netizens are wondering if Tharun's film is inspired by Dhanush's Karnan

At the stroke of midnight, as Challenging Star Darshan was set to ring in his birthday (the superstar turns 46 today), the team of his upcoming next, #D56 revealed its title. The film, directed by Tharun Kishore Sudhir and produced by Rockline Venkatesh, is called Kaatera, a title that industry pundits had revealed long ago on social media. The title reveal was accompanied with a new poster featuring Darshan wielding a machete and a group of people with what appear to be farming tools, in the background. The year 1974 is also embossed in the backdrop, referring to the period the film is set in.

Since the title has been public knowledge for a while, netizens began pondering what it could mean and turned their attention to the poster. Some quickly pointed out that the image was eerily similar to the poster of Tamil star Dhanush’s 2021 film, in which he played a youth fighting for the rights of the people of his village. Tharun’s film with Darshan is supposedly based on real incidents and set in the 70s, but is also about one man leading the cause of others. Could there be similarities, after all?

“Its Official Now. #D56TitleReveal #Kaatera was Remake of #Karnan ( Dhanush's tamil movie) are you really proud of this @TharunSudhir ?? Why bro . Literally heart broken,” wrote a fan in response to the title reveal. Another added, “Chowka inspired by prison break. Robert inspired by tamil movie. Then now katera looks almost karnan🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ such a heartbreak from #dboss.” A third wrote, “Kaaṭera is remake of tamil movie karnan?? Naṅg ansiddu haṅgene background song kuda karnan taraane ide.” Several others responded with ‘Karnan remake?’.

Darshan fans jumped to his defence stating that the film is an original, based on true incidents that happened in Hampi way back in the 70s. The film, which introduces Malashree’s daughter as heroine, is currently in production.
