The first look was unveiled at IFFI 2025, where Pednekar portrays a delicate yet strong female lead character in a difficult, dark narrative, marking a challenging role for her. On January 15, the streaming platform shared the OTT release date along with another poster featuring Aditya Rawal.

The upcoming series Daldal is a psychological crime thriller starring Bhumi Pednekar as the lead character, DCP Rita Ferreira.

The story, based on Vish Dhamija's bestselling novel Bhendi Bazaar follows Mumbai's newly appointed DCP, Rita Ferreira. She is tasked with investigating a series of brutal murders, which forces her to navigate the city's dark moral "grey zones".

While chasing a cold-blooded killer, she must confront the guilt and demons of her own past, which will add a deep psychological layer to the story. The series aims to explore the emotional and psychological toll of crime on law enforcement officers.

Bhumi Pednekar on portraying DCP Rita Ferreira

Pednekar, who plays the difficult role of DCP Rita Ferrera, opened up about her approach to the character and the obstacles involved during the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025.

"From the women in my home, I learnt that power doesn't need to be loud. It can be quiet, resilient, and rooted in constantly questioning the world around you. That's something I saw my mother do every day, and something Rita does too. She doesn't say much, but she does a lot. If actions speak louder than words, I don't think there's a character who embodies that more than Rita Ferreira," she said.

Bhumi Pednekar said that this role is a completely new experience for her, as she could not rely on dialogues or even expressive eyes to convey emotions. She explained that she had to rely on extremely subtle physical details, such as how her character's neck stiffened in guilt or how her body instinctively reacted to anger.

"It was one of the toughest roles I've ever prepared for, and it took months to come out of it. But it was also deeply satisfying because I was pushed, really pushed, by a team that believed in complexity, in darkness, and in writing anti-hero traits for women. Very few characters like this get written for us," Bhumi said.
