Ramya's call to stop derogatory tweets by fans appeared one-sided

Online fan wars are not new, and although stars have often said that social media feuds are not to be taken seriously, the current scenario looks on the contrary. For the last couple of months, there’s been simmering tension between fans of Challenging Star Darshan and those of the late Power Star, Puneeth Rajkumar. Darshan’s comment about his fans showing him how much he is loved while he is alive, being akin to the tens of thousands pouring in when Puneeth passed away, was not taken in the right spirit and there’s been an uneasy undercurrent since then between the two factions of fans.

Last evening, it all came to a head, when Darshan arrived in Hospet for the song launch of his film Kranti. For the longest time, Hospet was considered a Puneeth stronghold, and the fact that the team of Kranti would choose to show their fan power there was seen as yet another affront to the late actor. During the course of the evening, the unthinkable happened. Someone took a shot at Darshan, quite literally, albeit with a single slipper. Social media has been flooded with messages from both sections of fans baying for blood. Darshan fans blamed Puneeth fans and they retaliated saying it was staged by the former. Either which way, the current scenario is quite ugly.

Meanwhile, while most Kannada actors jumped to Darshan’s support, actress Ramya attempted to point out the root cause of the problem – that stars need to rein in their fans. In doing so, though, she chose to highlight tweets featuring utterly crass language, presumably from Darshan fans. She wrote, “All fan clubs must maintain decorum- All actors must caution their fan clubs from trolling other actors or anyone for that matter. Don’t post derogatory comments wrt women and children. All abuses and cuss words targeted towards women.”

In no time, Ramya was, of course, trolled incessantly by Darshan fans, wondering why she was selective in the screenshots she shared.

Here's what's being said to her tweet now...
