Darshan Thoogudeepa in The Devil

In a little over a week, Darshan Thoogudeepa will have the second release of his career that he’s not been around for. More than a decade after Saarathi came out when he was under judicial custody in a domestic violence case filed by his wife, Vijayalakshmi, Darshan has The Devil coming out. He is in jail yet again, albeit on a more serious charge. Although it was initially thought that the team would wait for the actor to be released again – on bail or acquitted after the trial – given that there was no time frame on how long this could take, they decided to go ahead and bring the film to theatres in his absence. December 12, 2025 was announced and the team began promotions as well.

No midnight shows for The Devil

Darshan fans are looking at making a celebration of the film’s release and had requested the team to organize special shows for them at midnight, but what the makers did instead is that they advanced the release by a day. Now, The Devil releases on December 11, with 6.30 am morning shows. Director-producer Prakash Veer is also handling the distribution of the film, along with KVN Productions’ Supreeth. Advance bookings for the film will begin on December 6, primarily with Single screens, while multiplexes are expected to fix schedules and open closer to the release date.

Supreeth has reiterated that although fans have been requesting a few midnight shows or even 4 am ones, this would require seeking special permission, which they are not doing. The team is currently targeting close to 400 screen count across the state, which will also depend on the performance of the films coming out on December 5, including Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar and Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda, both of which are likely to get big releases in Bengaluru.

The Devil team has also clarified that the film will release in Kannada only, with no plans for dubbed versions in theatres. The trailer of the much-awaited film will drop on December 5. At the press briefing on December 2, Prakash had said that composer Ajaneesh Loknath was still working on the film’s score, which could explain the delay with the trailer as well.
