Bollywood Movies That Deserve Sequels

Felt like the year 2023 taught the entire industry the value of the yesteryear and the content that was introduced in the past two decades. A sequel to a massive hit took over the big screens (Gadar 2), a superstar was back after a hiatus ruling the entire year, Dharmendra was back sprinkling his magic as a lover boy at the age of 88, Shabana Azmi and Sharmila Tagore proved why they are personified timeless elegance. So when so much happened that year, this will have the makers try to replicate the magic of the past? But does that mean we make sequels to movies that were very much whole then, and well, the harsh truth, not very much relevant now?

The news that Humraaz 2 is moving forward and that Ameesha Patel has confirmed working on it made us think is the baton to make sequels moving in the right direction. Which films do exactly deserve a sequel? In our opinion, the ones with an open end and a scope to have a future should be the ones considered. Gadar 2 could very much be one of and not every film that comes after it will have the same impact or effect. But which ones should we consider?

Well, we at OTTplay today thought of listing down seven Bollywood movies that actually deserve a sequel. Read on and think about where these stories can go, maybe you can be the one who ends up giving these stories a future.

Jab We Met 2

Jab We Met is Available On: Amazon Prime Video and YouTube.

Okay, let’s get done with the most obvious first. All of us want to know where Geet and Aditya are now. Are they still that much in love, have they fallen out? Did Geet return to being the chirpy Geet we first met? Did Aditya continue the success streak? What happened to Anshuman? So a Jab We Met 2 makes the most sense just like all other Imtiaz Ali movies. Maybe Imtiaz Ali needs to get on to this next but in a more indulged way than Love Aaj Kal ( the second one).

Rocket Singh 2

Rocket Singh is Available On: Amazon Prime Video.

We didn’t appreciate Ranbir Kapoor enough when he chose the right kind of film so he went on to do Animal and we all saw what happened. Rocket Singh is one of the best films in the actor’s filmography and it didn’t get the due credit when it was released back in the day. But the movie has a whole lot of scope to have a future. Directed by Shimit Amin, Rocket Singh: Salesman Of The Year can have a future when we can meet the protagonist having climbed the top of the hierarchy in his working space, or maybe still struggling to make ends meet.

Aankhen 2

Aankhen is Available On: Amazon Prime Video and YouTube.

I know you are surprised looking at this one on the list but hear me out, Aankhen if you look at it is a very interesting plot. A group of blind thieves carrying out a robbery is such a compelling idea. Imagine having it now with a filmmaker as skillful as Sriram Raghavan making it. Aankhen 2 makes the most sense in the world where thrillers and con dramas are the flavour of the season. Someone should think of a sequel or an inspired film as soon as possible.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Is Available On: Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

The trio gave us a soul sequel to Dil Chahta Hai and the Zoya Akhtar directorial spoke to the masses in a way that we all fell in love with this one film. The re-watch value of this one is insane and if the makers just end up announcing a sequel to it, there will be a storm on the Internet and the theatres will be flooded. Exploring the lives of the three antagonists after the events of the first part lends itself to be a very interesting premise for the sequel. Zoya, if you read this, consider this as a request.

Darr 2

Darr is Available On: Amazon Prime Video.

Darr introduced to a Shah Rukh Khan none of believed existed. But turned out there was always a grey shade to him that flourished when Yash Chopra thought of him as the creepy guy in Darr. The biggest mystery is whether he dies in the end of the movie or not. Now as Shah Rukh Khan is back in the public conscience stronger than ever, this is the time he beings back Darr and gives a story where he returns as the villain. Even Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol are back in the game, and that calls for a reunion.

Delhi Belly 2

Delhi Belly is Available On: Netflix.

Imran Khan is back and that is a reason enough to revive every single good film he did in his career. Delhi Belly in itself was a very fresh subject for its times and deserved to be seen. The film that got fans in the OTT era is now very relevant for the audience who discovered it late. The story of Delhi Belly has very much an open end and we can see it having a future.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na 2

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is Available On: Netflix.

We kept the most heart-warming for the last and I know you all blushed looking at the name in the list. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na was a cultural ambassador for an entire generation that saw themselves on the screen. Now as Imran Khan has returned and Genelia D’Souza is still the cutest which means Jai and Aditi can return and show us what happened after the film and where they are now. . Stay tuned to OTTplay for more content like this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
