Kannada actor Dheekshith Shetty was making baby steps in Telugu cinema when he was given a pivotal role in Nani’s Dasara. The role gave Dheekshith the break he was looking for in that industry, but, more importantly, working with Nani gave him certain insights that he’s picked up and followed in his career as well. Dheekshith, who is currently basking in all the praise coming his way for his portrayal of Vikram in Rashmika Mandanna’s The Girlfriend, is now promoting his next film in Kannada, Bank of Bhagyalakshmi. During one such interaction with Kadakk Cinema, Dheekshith was asked about his greatest learning from working with Nani.

“What I have noticed about Nani sir is that he works predominantly with debut directors. He has a certain vision; when he meets someone, he knows exactly what that person is capable of and what can be achieved. That, I think, is something I have picked up from him, in the sense that I am also working either with debutants or filmmakers who are just 1 film old,” said Dheekshith.

Dheekshith Shetty needs a bound script for any discussion

But having said that, the actor is quick to add that while he’s been consciously trying to do different kinds of films and roles, to choose a project, he needs a bound script. “I cannot commit to a project based on an idea or a one-liner. On days that I am not at work, I have at least 3-4 script narrations. To get to the 4-5 films that I am doing currently, I might have heard hundreds of scripts,” said Dheekshith, adding that the criteria is never about doing a pan-India film. Rather, he prefers if the content organically reaches audiences across the country.

Dheekshith has an interesting lineup of films in Kannada and Telugu and will soon debut in Malayalam and Tamil too. After Bank of Bhagyalakshmi, he’s got KJQ in Telugu, and an unnamed film with the makers of Dasara. In Kannada, he’s currently working on Bail, in which he is collaborating with Century Star Shivarajkumar for the first time.
