Dheeram actor Indrajith Sukumaran: Working on Bandar with Anurag Kashyap was a learning experience

Indrajith Sukumaran makes his Hindi film debut with Bandar

Indrajith Sukumaran will be in theatres this week with his Malayalam film Dheeram, in which he is playing a cop investigating a serial killing. The actor is also keenly awaiting his next, which will mark his Hindi film debut. Indrajith is one of the main characters in Anurag Kashyap’s next, Bandar, which recently had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The actor is joined by Bobby Deol and Sanya Malhotra as the central characters of the tale.

“It’s a very interesting character, which is performance driven. Anurag’s films tend to be intense, deep and dark and Bandar is also in that zone. Getting do such a character in his film was a learning experience for me. In fact, it was quite new for me. For instance, there was a sequence involving nearly 150 actors, and these are not uncredited junior artistes. Each of these 150 people on set was a theatre actor and the beauty of that was that when you reach the shooting spot, they are already prepped as their characters and are not waiting for action to be called. I am really looking forward to that film,” said Indrajith, talking to Mathrubhumi News.

Meanwhile, in Dheeram, Indrajith is a cop yet again, something that he’d been trying to distance himself from, given the sheer number of police characters he’s done over the years. But the actor says that he was drawn to the investigation process and narrative style of the film, which he felt was realistic and novel, and hence chose to play ACP Stalin Joseph.

In Malayalam, Indrajith is also working on Ottakomban, a film that’s been going on for a year and is not done yet; there’s still another schedule to go before they wrap it up. That, he says, will be his most massy role to date. “In late December I begin work on a comedy film called Kaalante Thankakudam, which will be my milestone 100th as an actor,” he signs off.
