I have to do my work here. Also, I can’t see it now, it will be too overwhelming. That’s what my daughters are also saying. Maybe I will watch it later when the wounds start healing.”
Ikkis is a 2026 Hindi biographical war drama directed by Sriram Raghavan, telling the true story of India's youngest Param Vir Chakra recipient, Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, who was martyred at 21 in the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
The film stars Agastya Nanda as Arun, Dharmendra as his father (Brigadier M.L. Khetarpal), and Jaideep Ahlawat as a Pakistani Brigadier. Arun's bravery in the Battle of Basantar is juxtaposed with his father's journey to Pakistan many years later, exploring themes of courage, sacrifice, and the human value of war.
It focuses on the Battle of Basantar in the Shakargarh sector, where Lt. Khetarpal, despite being ordered to abandon his damaged tank, continued to fight, destroying several enemy tanks and preventing a significant breakthrough, ultimately sacrificing his life for his country.
The film also features a powerful and emotional confrontation between Arun's father and the Pakistani officer, Brigadier Jaan Mohammad Nisar (based on the real-life Khwaja Mohammed Naseer), who was involved in the final battle, highlighting themes of shared humanity amidst conflict.
The title Ikkis means twenty-one. It refers to the age at which Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal achieved martyrdom, highlighting his youth and extraordinary bravery.
Ikkis started decently at the box office amid the unstoppable Dhurandhar. It minted Rs. 7 crore on its first day. Gradually, it began to slow down and ended up with Rs. 25.5 crore in week one. After 12 days, Ikkis has collected Rs. 29.15 crore at the domestic box office.
