NDTV reported that the 3.29-minute-long Dhurandhar was initially set to be a web series. Sources close to the project indicated that although Dhurandhar began as a potential series, the sheer scale and conviction behind its story convinced the director (Aditya Dhar) to rethink its treatment.
The report also mentioned that this change was not made in a hurry. According to those involved with the project, Dhurandhar was locked in as a full-length film long before the cameras started rolling.
Dhurandhar (2025) is a high-octane Bollywood spy action-thriller directed by Aditya Dhar, following an undercover RAW agent (Ranveer Singh) who lands in Karachi's dangerous Lyari underworld to dismantle a terror-mafia nexus. The film focuses on Operation Dhurandhar, aimed at breaking the ISI-underworld alliance responsible for attacking India.
Following major terror incidents like the 1999 Kandahar hijack and the 2001 Parliament attack, IB Chief Ajay Sanyal initiates a secret mission to combat terrorism. Hamza (Ranveer Singh) infiltrates Karachi’s underworld, becoming a trusted aide to crime lord Rehman Dakait (Akshaye Khanna) to destroy the syndicate from within.
The story features a power struggle involving gangsters, ISI officers (Arjun Rampal), and politicians (Rakesh Bedi), with Hamza caught in the middle of a dangerous game.

The film picks up immediately after the cliffhanger in the first instalment, where Hamza's identity as an Indian operative is revealed. The sequel will explore Jaskirat's transformation from a criminal into an undercover agent and provide a deeper backstory for the antagonist, Major Iqbal (Arjun Rampal).
