Speaking to Times Now, Nikkhil Advani said that they shot Freedom at Midnight Season 1 and 2, consisting of 14 episodes in total, in one go. He said, “For Rocket Boys also we shot both seasons together. When you make a period show of this scale, genre, and pilot, you have to make it together because it just makes production sense. It took a year to write the 14 episodes, and they were written together.”
Nikkhil Advani said that as a filmmaker, one is always dealing with polarised opinions. He explained that nowadays, social media makes it easy to understand what someone from afar thinks about his work.
He added that people have always had differing and polarising opinions, but they have followed the book as their source material. "People always had dissenting opinions and polarised opinions, but we followed the book as our source material. It was a chaotic and confusing time, and nobody predicted it would blow up the way it did," he said.
Freedom at Midnight Season 2 (2026) dives into the chaotic aftermath of India's Partition, focusing on communal violence, refugee crises, and state integration, with key figures like Nehru (Sidhant Gupta), Patel (Rajendra Chawla), Gandhi (Chirag Vohra), and Mountbatten (Luke McGibney) going through important decisions and personal struggles, exploring the human cost behind the demarcation of the border line, the Kashmir dispute, and Gandhi's assassination.
