Dies Irae box office collection day 1: Malayalam actor Pranav Mohanlal ventured into the genre with Rahul Sadasivan’s Dies Irae, and it appears to be a killer move. The film has opened to solid box office figures of Rs 4.5 crore, which is higher than the opening collections of the 2024 hit film Varshangalkku Shesham.

The Malayalam film Dies Irae The Day of Wrath, starring Pranav Mohanlal in the lead role, opened with paid premieres on October 30 before having a worldwide release on October 31. Rahul Sadasivan’s film has been winning praise from almost all quarters, as general audiences and stars like Manju Warrier, recommending it as a must-watch. Dies Irae opened with Rs 4.5 crore, as per trade tracker Sacnilk. Online trackers have said that paid premieres also saw tremendous booking, pegging it close to Rs 1 crore, but we do not have official numbers to back the box office collection of that.

Pranav Mohanlal was last seen in a lead role in Varshangalkku Shesham, which earned around Rs 3.65 crore on its opening day when it released during Vishu festival in 2024. Varshangalkku Shesham, helmed by Vineeth Sreenivasan which also featured his brother Dhyan in the other lead role, went on to become a box office hit but faced much trolls after its OTT debut.

The current best opening day figures are owned by Pranav’s father the superstar Mohanlal, whose Empuraan made Rs 18 crote. That’s only one of the BO records that Mohanlal-starrer still holds after Kalyani Priyadarshan surpassed it to become the all-time highest-grossing film in Malayalama. The Kalyani Priyadarshan-starrer made Rs 2.7 crore when it opened in theatres on August 28, 2025, but after that there was no looking back for the Dulquer Salmaan-backed film.

With the solid responses that Dies Irae have been seeing from other south regions, despite ace Telugu filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Epic re-releasing in theatres. Dies Irae saw solid bookings in BookMyShow, putting the film in a good position as it enters the weekend.
