Climate change is the most contentious concern the world is gripped by today. The much-awaited dark satirical sci-fi comedy Don’t Look Up written and helmed by Oscar-winning Adam McKay, is billed as an allegory to this.

Leonardo DiCaprio, a climate change champion in real life has taken the movement onto the screen with his reel-life character. Dicaprio plays Dr. Randall Mindy, an astronomer, who along with his team comprising Jennifer Lawrence who plays an astronomy grad student, is trying to warn the world about an asteroid collision. The teaser trailer of the film was released today.

In the teaser trailer, a panic-stricken DiCaprio, heaving heavily in deep breaths, says, ‘You are here now, you are here now,’ while splashing water in his face to come to terms with the eventuality of the comet hitting Earth to end it all. He sets out on a journey across the country to warn people and dignitaries, from the President to the uppity hosts of a television show, played by Cate Blanchett and Tyler Perry respectively.

In a laugh-out-loud scene from the teaser, Leonardo is seen at the office of the President, with her fellow executive. “Your breathing is stressing me out,” is what the executive has got to say to DiCaprio. When Dicaprio explains about the comet impact, saying, "This will affect the entire planet", the executive’s exasperating and rather mind-boggling reply goes: “I know, but it’s like so stressful.” That sets the template for the cool teaser and you’re game right on. A mindful entertainment with a burning hot relevant message is seen in handful in cinema, and this one adds to the list

The teaser trailer introduces Jonah Hill who plays the son of the President of the United States (played by the brilliant Meryl Streep).

In an interview with People magazine, DiCaprio had lauded director Mckay’s storytelling finesse, saying that he has an ‘unparalleled ability to spark conversation with humour and timely stories.’ The Revenant actor described the script as ‘incredibly unique’ that coalesces ‘climate crisis into an incredibly absurd and funny yet important movie.’
