The Kannada film Doora Theera Yaana is out on OTT as of September 26. The MansoRe directorial is now available on Sun NXT (via OTTplay Premium also) and stars Vijay Krishna and Priyanka Kumar in the lead, while Sharath Lohithashwa, Sudha Belawadi, Arun Sagar, Sruthi Hariharan, Krishna Hebbale and Shobaraj Pavoor have pivotal cameos.

All about Doora Theera Yaana

Vijay and Priyanka play Akash and Bhoomi, a much-in-love couple who have been together for five years. Like any other couple, they too have the occasional argument. On the threshold of getting engaged, they realize that they’ve been fighting more than usual and that is all is not well. They figure that a few days together will be just the soothing balm they need and set off on a road trip.

Instead, what happens is that spending more time together just rips open the bandages of old wounds and causes new ones too. A life abroad is what Bhoomi aspires for and is a possibility, but Akash would rather remain where he is, close to near-and-dear ones. His impulsive decisions that she just goes along with to avoid creating a scene, are often insensitive, like, for instance, when he thinks it would be a great idea for them to spend an entire day on a fishing boat, or when he decides what she should wear over what is more comfortable and practical.

As the only girl on a boat with a bunch of men and no lavatory facilities, Bhoomi has to not only drink as little as possible, but also hold in the urge to relieve herself until they return to land at the end of a very long day. What should have been nipped in the bud, becomes one of the umpteen situations in which Akash has a late realization about the folly of his ways.

But even as Akash tries desperately to be more sensitive towards what Bhoomi wants, it strikes her that deep down, he doesn’t really understand her. A day trip that each sets out on with a different destination has Akash and Bhoomi meet strangers, who dish life lessons that greatly impact the duo and serve as literal eye-openers.

It finally dawns on them that despite their deep love for each other, they have varied life goals and that it would not be fair on either to force the other to follow only one person’s dreams. Both are entitled to a happy ending and that, they reckon, will be possible only if they go their separate ways. Just like their names, Akash (sky) and Bhoomi (earth), suggest, that they are not meant to be together, but can still complement each other, they head out in search of their individual happy places.
