Dooradarshana trailer: Pruthvi Ambaar’s period flick explores the case of the missing TV

Dia fame Pruthvi Ambaar’s first release for the year, Dooradarshana is a period film set in the 80s, when owning a television was still a novelty and the tagline ‘Owner’s pride, neighbour’s envy’, well and truly held good. The Sukesh Shetty directorial is about how the relationship dynamics between members of a joint family change after they get a television in the household.

The trailer of the film, which came out on February 17 details how the younger of two brothers gets hold of a television set, which is then proudly displayed in the ancestral home he shares with his elder brother and family. Soon enough, the television becomes the source of entertainment for the entire neighbourhood, with every one pouring in to catch prime time programming. What happens when this television set then goes missing forms the central narrative of the film, while also exploring how that affects the relationships within the family. There’s also a love story amid all this drama.

Dooradarshana, which pairs Pruthvi with Ayana, also has Ugramm Manju, Harini, Karthik and Suraj on the cast. The film was extensively shot across locations in the coastal belt, especially Puttur. Pruthvi, for whom Dooradarshana will be the first release of the year, has been quoted as saying that he felt drawn to the subject of the film as it was soulful. The film, which has music by Vasuki Vaibhav, is set to release in theatres on March 3.

Pruthvi, whose last solo release was Sugarless, has a slew of films in various stages of production. For instance, there’s Life is Beautiful, For Regn, Bhuvanam Gaganam, Aba Jaba Daba, Happily Married, Pentagon, Matsya Gandha, Ailu, among others. He is also set to make his Tamil film debut with Mazhai Pudikatha Manithan.
