Dr 56 was Priya Mani’s first release in Kannada in three years. The Kannada-Tamil bilingual, directed by Rajesh Anandaleela, was an investigative thriller about a murder mystery, involving a protagonist who has to take a certain pill every 56 minutes. When he is then embroiled in the murder investigation of three neurosurgeons, the investigation officer has to figure out if he is the culprit or an innocent victim.

Speaking to OTTplay about her role in the film, Priya had said, “Dr 56 is a medical thriller wherein which we have tried to give audiences a subtle message to be more aware and mindful of people like medical professionals and hospital authorities, who we trust just as much as god, perhaps, and that what you see may not be what you get from them. 99% of the time, all may be well, but there is always the chance that there could be scam or medical mafia at play that we may not know about. This film looks at one such incident that has happened in real life, which could, for all you know, still be happening in India or outside the country too. We are just trying to shine light on the fact that healthcare scams and medical mafia exist and that we need to look out for ourselves.” The actress had added that the fact that it was true story appealed to her.

The film, which released in theatres in early December, did not have a great run at the box office, but its digital rights have now been picked up and is now available to stream. Dr 56 has been bought by Amazon Prime Video and the film is on the platform now.

Dr 56, which has music by 777 Charlie fame Nobin Paul, also stars Deepak Shetty and Praveen, among others.
