There seems to be no stopping Kurup in the box office! The Dulquer Salmaan-starrer, which already broke Mollywood records for the best opening day figures, has entered the Rs 50Cr club just four days after its release.

While this the gross from its worldwide collections, what makes it even more special is that the movie opened to theatres in Kerala and did well despite having only 50% occupancy. What made it possible is the record number of almost 500+ screens allotted to the movie in the State and the more shows than usual per theatre. The film had grossed Rs 15 Cr from theatres across Kerala in the first three days alone.

Considering its reviews, the film is expected to continue its success run for another week even though there are four more new releases in Malayalam on November 19 – Indrajith Sukumaran’s Aaha, Mamta Mohandas’ Lalbagh, Basil Joseph’s Jan-E-Man and Asif Ali’s Ellam Sheriyakum.

Meanwhile Kurup’s success will be heartening for the makers of these films, as families too showed up in theatres driving the ticket sales in the State. All of the upcoming releases meant to cater to the family audience, it remains to be seen how many would be keen to return to theatres again in a space of a week, with Suresh Gopi’s Kaaval set to release on November 25 and Mohanlal’s magnum opus Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham set to get a wide release on December 2.

Kurup, directed by Srinath Rajendran, is inspired by the life of Sukumara Kurup, one of India’s most wanted fugitives. The movie also has Indrajith Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Shine Tom Chacko, Anupama Parameswaran, Sunny Wayne and Shobita Dhulipala in pivotal roles.
