Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat's clash with Thamma has taken an interesting turn since Harshvardhan Rane's film has recovered its budget before first weekend, while Ayushmann Khurrana's struggles below 50%

Ek Deewane ki Deewaniyat and Thamma
Harshvardhan Rane's Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has turned out to be the biggest Diwali twist at the Box Office. The movie, despite getting half the screens as compared to Thamma, already recovered 100% of its budget before the weekend commenced. Meanwhile, Ayushmann Khurrana's MHCU film is still struggling on that front, with not even 50% recovery so far. Both the movies released in theatres on Tuesday, October 21, and the trends changed by day 2 itself.

Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, featuring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa in the lead roles, has already recovered 100% of its budget at the Box Office by day four. Made on a budget of Rs. 25 crore, the film is nearing Rs. 30 crore mark by the first half of Saturday itself, according to Sacnilk. If the movie sees immense growth over the weekend, then Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat will find a hit status within a week of its release.
On the other hand, Ayushmann Khurrana's Thamma struggles with recovering even 50% of its budget within four days of its release. Even if the movie has bigger names like Paresh Rawal and Nawazuddin Siddiqui (apart from a cameo from Varun Dhawan) and a franchise - MHCU - attached to it, the film only got a big opening day, but has not impressed as much since.
Made on a budget of Rs. 145 crore, Thamma has earned over Rs. 65 crore. The movie needed Rs. 72 crore before the weekend to recover at least 50% of its budget, but it has failed to do so thus far. The big question now is - can Thamma earn a hit status? Will it earn a huge sum over the first weekend? Currently, the chances of that appear bleak.
The viewers have a divided opinion on Thamma. While the film, starring Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead, has mostly received flak for poor screenplay, a few found the movie entertaining. Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, on the other hand, has received average to extreme reviews. The gen z crowd who fell in love with Saiyaara tend to connect with Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat more than other viewers. Thus, the audience chooses both the films and denies them too, depending on their taste and preferences.
